Q: Which series suits a road car?

AST's own guide points a car used on the road, or on the road with the odd track day on road tyres, to the 5100 series. The 5100 Street TCO keeps the original top mounts; the Street Performance TCO adds camber-adjustable ones at the front.

Q: What is the difference between the 5200 and 5300?

Both have separate compression adjustment and external reservoirs. The 5300 splits compression into low-speed and high-speed adjusters, for full race use.

Every AST damper is a monotube: nothing inside can aerate or foam, which AST say keeps the valving responsive.

5100 Street TCO, coilovers front and rear (AST ACU)

The 5100 Street kit in TCO form: inverted monotube coilovers at the front and the rear, adjustable for rebound damping and ride height. Springs come in the kit, which works with the car's original top mounts. The rebound adjuster has 12 positions, and the dampers can be rebuilt.

5100 Street Performance TCO (AST ACT)

The 5100 Street Performance kit in TCO form: inverted monotube coilovers front and rear, adjustable for rebound damping and ride height. Camber-adjustable front top mounts are included, and solid rear ones where the car needs them. Adjustable camber lets you set the angle of the front wheels, and with it how the front end grips. The rebound adjuster has 12 positions, and the dampers can be rebuilt.

5200 2-Way Motorsport (AST RIV)

Rebound and compression damping each have their own adjuster, and ride height adjusts too. Compression damping sets how quickly the suspension moves in; rebound sets how quickly it extends again. The dampers work with external reservoirs, mounted remotely. The struts are inverted, which AST use because that design copes with heavy sideways loads and with braking. Where the car needs them, camber-adjustable front and solid rear top mounts are included. Spring rates can be changed, and the rebound adjuster has 12 positions. AST made it first of all for track driving.

5300 3-Way Motorsport (AST RAC)

Three separate damping adjusters - rebound, low-speed compression and high-speed compression - plus adjustable ride height. Low-speed compression looks after slow, gradual movement of the suspension; high-speed compression looks after sharp, hard hits. The dampers work with external reservoirs, mounted remotely. The struts are inverted, which AST use because that design copes with heavy sideways loads and with braking. Where the car needs them, camber-adjustable front and solid rear top mounts are included. Spring rates can be changed, and the rebound adjuster has 12 positions. AST's kit for the most committed circuit drivers.
